游戏中玩家将化身为一块孤独的珊瑚石，担当起孕育生命的重任。玩家通过催生石头上的珊瑚树来获取生命力，进而创造出各种鱼类生物，装点着原先幽静清冷的深海。在大面积的冷色调画面下，深海环境显得尤为虚幻，然而随着生命体的不断涌现，各种花纹艳丽的鱼群陆续出现在玩家眼前，海底世界也开始变得色彩斑斓起来。
《深海水族馆》本质上是一款放置玩法的休闲游戏，玩家只需点击屏幕令珊瑚石释放出生命力即可。随着游戏深入，珊瑚石也开始掌握各种技能，例如“火山爆发”可以提供10/秒的自动点击效果。到了后期玩家更是可以通过高级的珊瑚树进行永动，真正做到解放双手的放置目的。
