正统原作外传《RWBY》手游剧情设定大公开
Atlas王国军方联合SDC正在秘密开发的一项新的科技ATS（Aura Training Simulator）设备。这种大型科技装置能够制造一个极端的Aura战斗虚拟环境，该环境装置需要消耗大量的Dust才能启动和维持运行。ATS允许在一个虚拟环境中重现人物、戮兽或机械的战斗过程，并且支持若干个参与者加入虚拟战斗环境进行互动式体验。
ATS设备的开发计划由Atlas军方主导。Atlas军方希望将ATS及其相关的技术用于保护四大王国的用途，即针对新手猎人的培训和增强人类对抗戮兽的战斗力。当然，Atlas军队更多的考虑是通过ATS训练培养大量的战斗力，快速扩充自身的军事力量。
由于保密需要，搭载ATS设备的飞船是一艘Atlas军方的大型护卫舰——圣徒号（Saints）。圣徒号伪装成一艘普通的侦查飞船（Scout Airship），经常在四大王国的边境一带盘旋飞行，不断收集尘晶作为其能量源。有时，圣徒号会赶往猎人和戮兽战斗的场所，试图在远处录制猎人和戮兽的战斗数据用以进行研究。
在Vytal节事件发生的当天，圣徒号正巧在距离Vale不远的北部天空航行，准备南下参加Vytal节。当时在圣徒号上，有以下主要人员：
舰长塞恩·格雷穆恩（Sion Greymoon）——少将军衔，一名Atlas军方的代表，是James Ironwood将军的好友。舰长全权负责圣徒号的航行以及ATS设备的运转。由于年轻时在一场战斗中遭到了Dust力量的摧残，舰长塞恩的皮肤呈现出一种铁灰色。另外他是个秃头，没有胡须，圆脸型，因此人们叫他Greymoon。
研究员约翰·贝图拉（Johann Betula）——一名负责ATS开发的科学家，对沉浸式的战斗模拟器有很深的造诣。早期是一个通信工程师，CCTS系统的后期版本更新时的开发者之一。年轻时钻研过CCTS系统早期的开发资料，爱好讲CCTS初创团队的轶事八卦（尽管其他人都不怎么爱听）。对科学研究之外的事情都不太感兴趣，说话尖酸刻薄，本人有点邋里邋遢，头发乱糟糟。
助理研究员普拉姆·格林伍德（Plum Greenwood）——非常性感的女性研究员，科学家约翰·贝图拉的副手。虽然是副手，但给人的感觉是其智力不在约翰之下。对工作认真负责到严厉的程度，和约翰邋里邋遢的性格正好互补。很多科学工作的实际指导者，经常帮助感到迷茫的玩家。会提醒约翰让他注意个人形象。
你——一个刚入行不久的见习猎人，作为圣徒号上屈指可数的安全保卫人员，是Atlas王国的雇佣兵。出身可以在四大王国之间进行选择。天分不错但一直没有合适的机会锻炼自己的能力，对在飞船上的生活感到无聊。打算跑完这趟佣兵任务攒够钱后就前往参加猎人资格认证的考试。
Vytal节事件时，一条被Cinder的力量召唤而来的黑色龙形戮兽吸引了大量的戮兽前来Vale一带。在Vale北部正在向南飞行的圣徒号遭到了大量飞行戮兽的袭击。由于舰长塞恩·格雷穆恩并没有做好战斗准备，圣徒号的其中一个引擎被戮兽摧毁，并引发了强烈的颠簸，船上多数人员遭到冲击后受重伤。在大副崔西的努力下，圣徒号开始紧急迫降。
