首先，工坊最大的作用是材料合成，《RWBY》大部分材料都可以多个合成为更高级的材料，以应对更加进阶的养成需求，使得低级材料能够得到充分的使用，而不是简单的被分解掉。
进入生产环节后，玩家可以退出至别的界面进行其他操作，生产一样可以在后台进行。由于部分材料(如芯片)的消耗量较大，需要花费较长时间生产，玩家还可以在部分飞船界面中，开辟新的工坊的生产线，最多可增至三条生产线，同时生产不同的材料。
而芯片生产这一部分，原料均可从飞船的小队派遣中获得，使得玩家就算不拼命“肝”，也可以通过“挂机”的形式拥有稳定的芯片来源。
武装蓝图是游戏中重要的养成线之一，同样可以在工坊中生产以及合成升级。
